During the academic year 2023/24, the ÈÕº«ÎÞÂë donated an incredible 1,139 bags of items to the , a nationwide charity that funds research into heart and circulatory diseases, and supports with cures and treatments for those affected.
This is a massive increase on our previous record of 692 bags in 2023, and 437 bags in 2022.
Over the summer we undertook our annual donation scheme, arranged by the and teams, where donated and abandoned items from our campus residences are collected and sorted to be forwarded on to the British Heart Foundation.
This largely consists of clothes, bric-a-brac, books and gadgets, which are then sold in to raise funds.
In addition to supporting the charity, the donation scheme contributes to the University’s sustainability goals by reducing our carbon footprint and minimising the volume of waste sent to landfill – over 9 tonnes of items were saved from landfill and donated as part of the scheme this year.
