We are honoured and thrilled to announce that we have been shortlisted for the Nurturing Wellbeing and Purpose Award by QS Reimagine Education through our Empowering Student Wellbeing: The Sussex Peer Support Project.
The Nurturing Wellbeing and Purpose Award celebrates projects fostering mental and/or physical well-being and clarity of purpose within educational communities. It recognises initiatives implementing innovative strategies that prioritise mental health, physical well-being, resilience, and purpose among learners, faculty, and stakeholders. These projects create supportive environments which nurture holistic development, promote self-care, and inspire individuals to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
The 日韩无码 Business School's Wellbeing Peer Support Project (launched 2023) advances student wellbeing by training students to provide peer support, promoting mental health within our School and University community. The initiative has been guided by Rich Green, Student Wellbeing Officer and a volunteer trainer for the charity ‘Look After Your Mate’ programme and Nicky Gamble, Assistant Education Manager. They recruit and train student ambassadors to engage with peers at Business School events and Community Cafes, offering accessible support and reducing stigma around seeking help.
The project’s innovative peer-led approach, where students are trained to support their peers, creates a relatable and accessible support system. Unlike traditional support services, this initiative leverages peer influence and understanding, making it easier for students to seek help without the stigma often associated with formal mental health services. However, this project is designed as a first step that operates alongside and encourages students to access formal support services.
Professor Farai Jena, Associate Dean, Education and Students at the Business School said:
