Business Administration and Sociology rise in the Shanghai Ranking ‘Global Ranking of Academic Subjects’

This week saw the publication of the latest 2024 of Academic Subjects (GRAS).
Sussex is ranked for 18 subjects this year: Business Administration is our highest ranked subject at 15th in the world (rising 15 places from 30th), followed by Sociology - ranked 39th globally (a rise of more than 60 places from 101-150th), Economics -ranked 51-75 globally, Geography and Political Sciences - both ranked 76-100 globally.
Compared with other UK universities, Sussex’s strongest subject rankings are: Business Administration, 5th in the UK (of 55), Sociology 8th in the UK (of 41), Economics, joint 8th in the UK (of 45), Political Sciences joint 12th in the UK (of 50); Psychology joint 11th in the UK (of 63).

The GRAS rankings
The GRAS rankings use a range of objective academic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of universities in respective subjects, including World-Class Faculty, World-Class Output, High Quality Research, Research Impact and International Collaboration.
Universities are ranked in 55 specific subject disciplines across the broad fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences. More than 1,900 out of 5,000 universities across 96 countries and regions are listed in the final rankings.
