Maternity

Do I have to tell my employer that I am pregnant or that I am a new mother?

While you do not have to inform your employer that you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is important (for you and your child's health and safety protection) that you provide them with written notification as early as possible.

A member of staff has informed me she is pregnant what do I need to do?

The law requires every employer to assess workplace risks for all their employees, and take practical action to control those risks. In addition, employers must take particular account of risks to new and expectant mothers.

Employers must identify hazards in their workplace that could pose a health or safety risk to new and expectant mothers and take appropriate action to remove or reduce the risk.

What do I need to include on my Risk Assessment?
