Supporting Women in Science

The Doctoral School is actively involved in the University’s Athena SWAN work and are delighted to highlight the Athena SWAN bronze accreditation awarded to the School of Life Sciences and the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

Athena SWAN is a national scheme that recognises universities and their component schools and departments for commitment to improving employment practices regarding recruiting, promoting, retaining and supporting female researchers.

The University has an Athena SWAN working group includes doctoral representation (with Heather-Rose Macklyne, Doctoral Researcher in Life Sciences and Paul Roberts, Assistant Director of the Doctoral School in attendance at the last meeting).  To find out more about the work in this area please go to the University’s Athena SWAN webpage.

Earlier this month, the School of Law, Politics and Sociology at Sussex became one of the first recipients of the Gender Equality Charter Mark bronze award – Athena SWAN’s sister scheme for non-science schools and departments.
