Networking
Although doing a research degree is an individual endeavour, you’ll need help to get you through the process. As discussed in the Supervision section, avoiding over-reliance on your supervisor can avoid problems and ensure that any issues are resolved quickly.
Your supervisor is there to provide academic support, but they probably won’t have time to help you make friends on campus or introduce you to the many events that take place throughout the year.
This section explains some of the ways in which you can get involved in research-related activities, both at the University and beyond. We’ll also look at opportunities for meeting other people and building your support network.
Here’s what we cover:
- Sussex Researcher School (SRS) events
- ÈÕº«ÎÞÂë Students’ Union
- Sussex Research Hive
- School/Departmental events
- Conferences and seminars
- Informal events
- Social media
