Creative writing continually evolves as new literary, cultural, and publishing innovations emerge. This module explores writing as a way to respond to global change and crisis鈥攁nd to create change. By developing your imaginative skills, you'll reflect on our complex world, whether political, historical, ecological, or fantastical. Designed for both beginners and experienced writers, the module integrates reading and writing to deepen your craft. You鈥檒l study selected texts, literary history, and diverse genres, while participating in workshops to exchange feedback. By the end, you鈥檒l have a portfolio of creative work showcasing your unique response to our ever-changing world.

Module learning outcomes

  • Experiment with different genres of creative writing and/or different source material and approaches.
  • Read widely among literary and critical texts; refelcts on these from an academic and practice-based perspective.
  • Write about published literary and/or ciritcal texts in relation to creative practice.
  • Reflect on and edit creative work following peer feedback in workshops; produce a revised, finished piece of creative writing.
