Critical Hope in Global Health: From Big Pharma to Local Wellbeing (008IDA)

In this module, you’ll use critical hope as a lens to explore global health, local well-being and the role of ‘Big Pharma’ across these contexts. You’ll investigate:
- the social and economic conditions that weaken health systems
- how nations and communities innovatively address health challenges and access to pharmaceuticals
- the role of ‘Big Pharma’ in shaping health outcomes
- lessons for sustainable solutions to health challenges.
Through case studies from the Global South and North, such as combating microbial drug resistance, you’ll examine pathways to sustainable health futures.

Contact hours and workload
This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 267 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
