Gender, Race and Sexuality (L2104)

Spring teaching

On this module, you'll explore how diverse groups experience the effects of development differently based on aspects of their identity, such as gender, race and sexuality. You'll be look at key concepts and frameworks to identify, analyse and explain forms of gendered and racial inequality.

You'll:

• examine how development impacts different identities and perpetuates inequalities
• analyse activism tackling sexual and gender-based violence
• explore policies towards migration
• develop skills to address rising sexism and racism online

By the end of this module, you'll be able to apply your understanding of these issues in a range of practical contexts.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 22 hours of contact time and about 128 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
