Campus life

You’ll find all you need including shops, a medical centre, sports facilities and cafes.
Over the summer you can find a place to eat at one of our cafes and restaurants, including:
- Eat Central – located in the heart of campus, Eat Central canteen serves globally inspired food throughout the day
- Arts Piazza – a coffee-lover’s dream thanks to its triple-certified coffee and first-rate baristas
- – a lively Students’ Union venue, serving a wide range of hot food and drinks at student-friendly prices.
We run welcome events when you first arrive and regular cultural events, such as our One World Week, celebrating our diverse community – so you experience life to the full at Sussex.
The Meeting House is the base for our on-campus chaplaincy, with services spanning a range of faiths and deonominations. The campus also has a Muslim Student Centre and prayer facility.
If you’ll be with us for a semester or year abroad, you can to help you settle in. You’ll match with current Sussex students based on your interests, course or language and have regular contact with your buddy.
Explore Brighton
Our famous seaside city is just a few minutes away from campus. Brighton is a fantastic place for students, with hundreds of cafes, vibrant nightlife and the iconic beach.
We’re a 30 minute train ride from Gatwick, one of Europe’s largest airports which serves over 90 countries and 200 destinations (including Barcelona, Dublin, Amsterdam, Madrid and Copenhagen).

Student support
We provide specialist support during your study abroad at Sussex. Whether it’s academic concerns, homesickness or health issues, our support services are here to help.
Our on-campus Student Centre can offer support on a range of issues related to your welfare. They can help with concerns around wellbeing, academic progress and money.
You can drop in to the from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and book appointments with experienced advisers.
During term-time our on-campus will be on-hand to help you settle into life at Sussex.
Specialist support
We offer if you have disabilities, mental health conditions, autism spectrum conditions and specific learning difficulties. Our network of support staff includes support workers, mental health mentors, note-takers and dyslexia tutors.

Adjustments for assesments and examinations
If you have a disability, impairment or other medical condition or you receive specific accommodations for assessments in your home institution, we may be able to provide support and adjustments for your assessments. Adjustments (accommodations) can include extra time, rest breaks and penalty waivers.
In order for adjustments and other support arrangements to be put in place, you will need to complete a Disability Advice Registration form and send it to the Sussex Abroad team or Summer School office. You will need to provide details and additional information about your needs as well as written confirmation that you consent to your personal information being shared with Disability Advice.
Important: Adjustments are made in response to the needs of the individual student and we cannot guarantee that these will be identical to the adjustments at your home institution.
For our Summer School, we will need to have received your registration before 31 May 2025.

You may need a visa to study in the UK, and you must have the most up-to-date information when you plan your trip to the UK.
